Fruit Tree Cottage sells well-established grafted Jujube trees and they make a special addition to the garden. The Li Jujube is a productive and self-fertile variety.
The Jujube is also known as the Chinese Red Date and is originally from China. It has a long history of cultivation and the fruit has a wide variety of uses.
Jujube trees are deciduous. The fruit starts out green before developing reddish brown splotches which may ultimately colour the entire fruit. It can be eaten fresh from the tree, dried, made into a tea, used in baking and stews.
Jujube trees are vigorous and a healthy tree will often produce suckers, so growing them in a large pot is a good option to consider.
