Grumichama, commonly known as Brazilian Cherry, is a highly ornamental evergreen fruit tree native to Brazil. It is valued for its glossy foliage, fragrant white flowers, and delicious cherry-like fruit.
This attractive tree produces round fruits that ripen from red to deep purple or almost black. The flavour is sweet and rich with a mild acidity, often compared to traditional cherries with a tropical twist. Fruits are excellent eaten fresh and are also popular for making jams, jellies, juices, desserts, and wines.
Grumichama has dense, dark green foliage that forms a naturally tidy canopy, making it ideal for edible landscapes, feature planting, hedging, or small home orchards. In spring, the tree produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators, followed by heavy crops of fruit.
